| Bloomington's Oak Grove Middle School, Valley View Elementary School, Valley View Middle School, Indian Mounds Elementary School, Nativity of Mary, and Sheridan Hills Elementary students were assisted in their annual Pennies for Patients® fundraiser by the donation of RBCU's coin cointing machine and the employees to operate it. Thirteen different coin counts took place over 10 different business days for a total count of $19,547.28 in coins and bills. Even more money was raised in the form of check donations. A total of 8 RBCU employees donated their time by helping with the offsite coin counting and many more assisted the fundraiser through their efforts at credit union branch offices.
The fundraiser is in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Since 1994, millions of dollars have been raised in pennies and other spare change by more than 10 million elementary, middle and high school students throughout the country. The funds are collected during a three-week period in February and March.
In the Pennies for Patients campaign, the class collecting the most change in each school receives a pizza party. Prizes such as computers, electronics and sports equipment are presented to the top schools in each area. All funds gathered go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society but everyone who participates is a winner!
